Itinerary Nove case - Rasun di Sopra
This varied walk connects the small village of Nove Case with the villages of Rasun di Sotto and Rasun di Sopra via a well-maintained cycle path along the Rio Anterselva river (Antholzer Bach). Numerous rest areas, beautiful views and the historic ‘Dreipruggn’ bridge make the walk a special nature experience for all: Thanks to the tarmac sections, the route is well suited to families with young children and pushchairs. For wheelchair users, a motorised wheelchair is recommended, as some short, steep inclines and longer sections with a continuous gentle gradient require strength or assistance.
Reachability
There are no parking spaces in Nove Case. The best way to reach the starting point of the walk in Nove Case is therefore by the accessible bus 431 – Brunico – Valdaora – Lago di Anterselva (the bus stop is not accessible/raised) or, alternatively, by the CallBus from Valdaora. The end point of the walk in Rasun di Sopra is at the Rasun di Sopra bus stop (Village Center).
Description
The walk begins at the Nove Case bus stop. From there, the first, short section leads along the Val Pusteria Valley main road to the Nove Case Guesthouse. There is no pavement on this stretch (a short, very steep footpath with a 25% gradient and a gravel surface). Before reaching the Nove Case Guesthouse, we turn right onto the little Via Nove Case Street. Here, for around 50 metres, there is a steep gradient of approximately 12%. Between the farmsteads of the hamlet, there is an on-demand bus stop, which allows for flexible journeys to and from Valdaora via the CallBus.
At a barn bridge spanning the path, we keep to the left and follow Via Nove Case Street (Val Pusteria Cycle Route) towards Anterselva and Dobbiaco. After a moderate climb of about 10% over roughly 20 metres, the tarmac cycle path runs pleasantly flat for a while.
At a small junction with the main road, we keep to the right on the cycle path. From here, the route descends gently and constantly towards the Rio Anterselva river (Antholzer Bach). Along the way, a bench and a seating area with a table invite you to take your first break.
At the river, we turn left onto the cycle route towards Rasun-Anterselva. The path climbs at a gradient of 10–15% and leads under two bridges up to the ‘Dreipruggn’ sight, a local landmark. The access ramp has a gradient of up to 16% over a distance of about 20 metres, making it the most challenging section of the entire tour.
After viewing the bridge, head back down the same ramp to rejoin the cycle path.
The tarmac path now takes us through the woods, running along the left bank of the Rio Anterselva river. The route alternates between a descent of around 12% over 50 metres and an equally long climb in the opposite direction. The cycle path then continues with gentle ups and downs, and is accessible to all. Before reaching the Alpen Natur Camping, there is another short climb of about 10% over 30 metres. The barrier in place has a clearance width of over 100 cm, providing sufficient space for people in wheelchairs, with pushchairs or on bicycles.
From here, the route runs almost flat all the way to Rasun di Sotto. The campsite road is tarmacked and lit in the evenings.
In Rasun di Sotto, we cross the Val di Anterselva Road via an underpass. This involves a short descent of around 12%, followed immediately by a climb of around 13%, each lasting about 10 metres.
After that, the tarmac cycle route runs through sunny mountain meadows with a gentle, constant gradient of about 3% to the fire station and the Rasun di Sotto municipal works yard (“In der Linde”), behind which there is also a inviting rest area with tables and benches (Fischerplatz).
A climb of just over 200 metres with a gradient of 10% takes us through the quiet residential area in Mühltal (signposted ‘Radroute’ and ‘Dorfrundweg’). A flat section of the path is followed, on the outskirts of the village, by a 20-metre climb with a gradient of 12%. This is where the tarmac ends. The wide cycle path is now surfaced with well-compacted, fine gravel. Regularly spaced rainwater channels cross the path.
After a short descent of around 9% over 30 metres, the route now runs directly alongside the Rio Anterselva river once more. Up to Rasun di Sopra, the path climbs steadily at a gradient of around 3–5%. Along this section, there are benches at regular intervals, which are ideal for short rest breaks.
At the first farmstead in Rasun di Sopra, the gravel surface gives way to tarmac once more. Passing through a quiet residential area with no pavement, we finally reach Via Rasun di Sopra Street. After crossing the bridge over the Rio Anterselva river, we arrive at the ‘Oberrasen Dorfmitte’ bus stop, the end point of this varied and scenic walking tour.
