The Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park Visitor Center is located in San Vigilio di Marebbe and offers visitors displays and information panels on the formation of the Dolomites, fossils, mountain farming, and the Conturines brown bear. A beautiful trail with information panels on the history of the Ladin people begins near the visitor center. The walk lasts about an hour and is also suitable for families with strollers.
Virtual tour of the Visitor Center
Rating: Very high accessibility
The elliptical Visitor Center is built on three levels connected by long ramps (8% incline). The entrance and information point are located on the ground floor, while in the basement, visitors are led through a reconstruction of the Conturines cave, where the bear skeleton and original bone specimens are on display. An accessible restroom is also located here. The tour continues in the large exhibition space, which showcases the park's typical habitats. The upper floor features terrariums containing live amphibians and reptiles, but other exhibits include a microscope corner, children's games, a library, and a computerized information center on South Tyrol's nature and landscape.
Note: The Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park visitor parking areas are located on the opposite side of the road (gravel paving and slope). An obstacle-free walkway leads to the main entrance, where some parking spaces are reserved for the Forest Ranger station. Visitors with disabilities can park temporarily in these spaces if necessary.
