Archeoparc Velturno
Information
The Velturno Archaeological Park bears witness to a history of settlement that, beginning in the Neolithic period, spans all the major eras and cultures. Burials and the remains of pottery-making activities tell the story of farmers and herders whose history dates back to 5000 BC.
The permanent exhibition of finds from the Velturno Archaeological Park is housed in the nearby Velturno Castle and is periodically complemented by temporary exhibitions designed to illustrate the current state of archaeological research and conservation in the Eisack Valley. Among other things, these exhibitions serve to highlight the spatial and chronological continuity of human settlement since prehistoric times in a region—that traversed by the River Isarco—which has been so important throughout the ages for connections between the two sides of the Alpine watershed.
Rating: Very high accessibility
The Velturno Archaeological Park has a car park reserved for disabled visitors; from there, following the sloping pavement, you reach the entrance to the excavation area. Here you will find information boards detailing the history of the settlement, as well as benches where you can rest. The Archaeological Park is accessible and can be visited without any particular difficulty. There are no toilet facilities.
