Whether you’re taking the little ones out to play in the fresh mountain air or spending a day in the mountains with the grandparents, the themed trail “The Legendary World of Toni” offers hours of fun for the whole family.
The trail starts at the Schwarzseespitze, the mountain station of the Rittner Horn cable car at 2,060 m, and returns via the Untere Horn. Eleven stations along the gentle trail are designed using natural materials and blend seamlessly into the landscape.
The stations invite visitors to test and assess their own abilities and to hone their balancing and climbing skills. Benches along the trail offer magnificent views of the surrounding mountain landscape and provide a comfortable spot to rest for older guests and children who tire easily. On clear days, the hiking trail offers a magnificent panorama: from the glacial giants of the Ortler and the Ötztal Alps in the west to the legendary world of the Dolomites far to the east; from the Stubai and Zillertal Alps in the north to the Presenella, the Adamello and the Brenta Dolomites in the south.
The circular trail is suitable for pushchairs and can be managed by visitors in wheelchairs with a motorised drive (such as Swiss-Track or Triride). There are sections of the trail with steep gradients and some stops that are only accessible via unpaved paths.
Tip: Bring a change of clothes for your children. Experience shows that children can’t walk past the water features without getting wet. A Kneipp experience is also available over 2,000 metres.

Reachability

The valley station of the Rittnerhorn/Pemmern cable car is also very easily accessible by public transport. In the provincial capital of Bolzano, a gondola of the accessible Rittner Seilbahn departs for Oberbozen every 4 minutes. The journey continues on the equally accessible Rittner Schmalspurbahn to Klobenstein station, and a connecting journey on bus 166 (a 10-minute ride) takes you to Pemmern, the valley station of the Rittner Horn mountain railway.
The accessible cable car takes just a few minutes to reach the mountain station, where the Toni Adventure Trail begins.
By car, take the Bolzano North exit (Brenner motorway A22) and head towards Bolzano/Renon; turn right at the entrance to the town and follow the Panoramastraße road up to Renon. From km 14, at the roundabout at the entrance to Klobenstein Renon, follow the sign for Rittner Horn. After 5 km, you will reach the valley station of the Rittnerhorn/Pemmern cable car. There are 3 parking spaces for guests with disabilities in the pay-and-display car park. Visitors with a disabled parking permit can obtain a ticket at the ticket office for free exit from the car park. There are further parking spaces near the ticket office which any guest (even without a disabled parking permit) can reserve.

Description

The entire themed trail, ‘The Legendary World of Toni’, is at least 3 metres wide and runs on firm ground; there are some bumpy sections which can sometimes be skilfully avoided, but which at other times take up the entire width of the path.
Starting from the Schwarzseespitze mountain station (2,060 m), you can already see the first stop, “Adleraugen”, and the signpost for the hiking trail. The first 15-metre section (with a 9–13% gradient on uneven ground) leads down from the mountain station to the signpost. From here, the path continues downhill with a 5–7% gradient to a junction, where we turn right. Here you will find the second station, “Adlerhorst”, and some seating. The path continues gently on level ground to the reservoir, where we keep to the right and pass station 3, “King Laurin and his Rose Garden”.  The next station, 4 “Adlersitz”, is accessible via a steep, approximately 20-metre-long access path with a 39% gradient and steps (not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs). This station can easily be skipped.
The route now follows a gentle, level path alongside the reservoir, before turning right shortly afterwards and heading downhill towards Station 5, “Willeweis and her View” (6–8% gradient on unpaved ground). Station 5 is reached via a narrow path through a natural dwarf pine maze (suitable only for fit visitors). This station can easily be skipped. From here, the path becomes slightly steeper, with an 8–13% gradient, leading down past the Kneipbecken and Station 6, “Toni’s Water Games”. The surface improves from here and the path continues gently to Station 7, “Dance of the Schlern Witches”, and Station 8, “Brave Knight Prack” (5–7% gradient), before curving left at a steeper 18–22% gradient to reach the crossroads at the lowest point of the hike:
Here, the path joins a forest track that becomes progressively steeper, leading to Station 9, “Toni fliegt”, with a maximum gradient of 21%. Here, a magnificent view opens up before us, and a playground and a few benches invite you to linger.
After a gentle 50-metre climb, you reach the accessible Unterhornhaus mountain inn, which has an accessible toilet with grab rails.
A 200-metre climb with a 15% gradient leads to the accessible Felturner Hütte, which also has an accessible toilet with grab rails.
From Station 9 “Toni fliegt”, steps or an adventurous slide lead back down to the lowest point of the hike: for families with pushchairs or guests in wheelchairs, the same return route with a 21% gradient back along the forest path is recommended. The return route to the Schwarzseespitze (approx. 600 m) has a continuous gradient of 5–9% and passes stations 10 “Nörggelen kegeln” and 11 “Höhle des Riesen”.
We follow the path until we return to the starting point of our circular walk, where the Schwarzseespitze restaurant (with a accessible toilet featuring grab rails for customers) is located. At the top station of the Rittner Horn cable car, there is a spacious public toilet without grab rails.
