KÄRNTEN SILENTPLAY
Lidmanskygasse
Good morning! Guten Tag! Dober dan!
I am very happy that today you have come through 10.Oktober-Straße and Lidmànskygasse. Here, I would say, one can truly feel a living fragment of Slovenian culture: that of the Slovenes of Carinthia, who live here, in Klagenfurt. Slovenian culture is a lively, varied presence here. Right here is the Hermagoras building, which is home to the Mohorjeva založba publishing house, a private bilingual nursery school, a private bilingual school and a boarding house for students. Also located here are the Christian Cultural Union, the Council of Slovenes of Carinthia and the Urban Jarnik Slovenian Ethnographic Institute. All this creates a centre that is at once political, administrative, educational and cultural. There is also an events hall and, on the corner, the Hermagoras bookshop. These institutions are essential: not only for language and education, but for the entire culture of the Slovenes of Carinthia, in Klagenfurt and throughout the region. Because the Slovenes of Carinthia do not live only here, but in many places in southern Carinthia. In this street there is also the Slovenian Economic Union, which promotes and strengthens relations between Slovenia and Austria. There is also the Posojilnica Bank, where the Slovenes of Carinthia can carry out their banking in Slovenian. And then the Haček bookshop, which offers Slovenian and German literature, making a valuable contribution to the preservation of the Slovenian language in Klagenfurt. The club of Slovenian students in Carinthia should not be forgotten, a very popular meeting place, and the well-known Café Pavlvs, one of the city’s best-loved gathering places. I hope you will feel like staying here a little longer: perhaps for a coffee, or to browse through a book, or simply to meet other people.
Se vidimo, srečno and ciao.
