KÄRNTEN SILENTPLAY
Kramergasse
As we continue towards Alter Platz, heading north, towards Wienergasse, on the left you can see a beautiful yellow house. On the façade stands a statue: blindfolded, with a pair of scales in one hand and a sword in the other. It is, of course, Justice. This building belongs to the Orsini-Rosenberg family and was home to Klagenfurt’s first town hall until 1918/1920. The city government was located right here. We continue towards Wienergasse. Today it is one of the city’s main traffic routes, but when I was a child, it was a dead-end street. Then, about twenty years ago, a large shopping centre, the City Arkaden, was built, and since then everyone passes through here. But Wienergasse itself also has its treasures, splendid houses and many details to discover. On the right you can see a very well-known and richly decorated building. It is what, in Carinthian dialect, is called the Löwalanhaus. Above the windows of the façade there are imposing sculptures of lions.
