The Drava, the Sava and the Isonzo: these three rivers tell us where we are. Carinthia is the only region in Europe where three cultures meet: it is something unique, and it is what defines us as Carinthians. It is said that we are a fusion of all three of these cultures. We are lively, open, warm-hearted, like the Italians; at the same time, however, we are incredibly melancholic, if we listen to our songs. We are also measured, not excessively so, always in moderation — and that means we are the perfect mix. This encounter of three cultures is also reflected in our cuisine.
We have Rein(d)ling, known elsewhere as Pohača, or Gubana in Trieste: the same tradition in all three countries. We have Käsnudeln: the Italians would call them ravioli, while the Slovenes would call them štruklji. And yet, deep down, they are all the same thing. As I was saying, the songs we sing are also sad, melancholic: a Carinthian song can make anyone cry. Almost anyone. Three Carinthians make a choir — and this too is something we have in common with our Slovenian and Italian neighbours. We all love to sing. We in Carinthia have cultivated this joie de vivre, this warmth, this openness over the years. We are happy when we have guests to whom we can show our homeland. A guest in Carinthia feels at home, feels welcomed. And what could be better than being in a place where culture, kindness and good food prevail?
A typical day in Carinthia is rather simple: you get up in the morning, after a good night’s sleep in the fresh mountain air; you head up into the mountains with ease, because we have many cable cars, and with the Kärnten Card, it is free as well; you go for a walk, perhaps you might even find mushrooms, some chanterelles or porcini. In the afternoon you come back down, lie in the shade of a tree along the shore of one of the many lakes. In summer the water reaches 28 degrees, so it is pleasantly warm. You do not burn your feet on the ground, because on the shores there is no scorching sand, but fresh grass. Then, in the afternoon, you sit in one of our beautiful historic centres. In Klagenfurt we sit in Alter Platz, have a coffee, an Aperol spritz or simply a cold beer, and perhaps listen to a street musician. Or else, in one of the local places, people gather and sing Carinthian songs and other music. And so evening falls once again over Klagenfurt. The windows can be thrown wide open. The fresh air caresses you and you are already happily looking forward to the next day in Carinthia.

The route you have chosen takes you from the kärnten.museum to various places in the centre of Klagenfurt, which are very, very important for the culture and history of the city and its inhabitants. It begins at the kärnten.museum and brings you back to the kärnten.museum. What matters are the connections: the connections within the city and those preserved inside the museum in the form of objects.
